Overview

You will encounter a great deal of information during your studies. Much of this will come to you through lectures, reading, discussion, and research.

Our Academic Reading and Note-making module will provide you with strategies for selecting relevant information and approaches, and for making effective notes that will prove useful later on.

This module is aimed at:

  • current students across all departments and subjects, to manage the volume and complexity of reading
  • prospective international students, to develop effective reading skills for university study
  • IELTS academic test-takers, to improve their current reading skills.

Module content

Study method

Study method of this module is distinct from any other online courses because of its interactive features. Within the module, you will find:

  • diagnostic test to assess your current ability and personalise your learning
  • practice activities to reinforce new skills
  • journal entries to store your thoughts and reflect at later stage
  • audio and video clips to keep your learning interesting
  • module assessment to tests your understanding and check your progress.

IT requirements

Academic Reading and Note-making module is delivered online through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). To participate in the module, you must have access to an internet-connected computer (desktop or laptop). 

This is a technology enhanced training module. Therefore, you must be familiar with using a computer for purposes such as sending email and searching the internet.
